Apothecary

Apothecary is Tideward's herblore trade — gather herbs from Farming, clean them, combine with secondary ingredients, brew potions that boost stats or restore resources during combat. Renamed from RuneScape's "Herblore" in May 2026 because the original was too distinctive. Mechanic: clean herb + ingredient + vial of water = potion.

How Apothecary works

Apothecary recipes are level-gated and ingredient-specific. An Attack potion needs a clean Guam leaf + Eye of Newt + vial of water; a Super Attack needs clean Irit + Eye of Newt; a Super Combat needs the three sub-potions plus a Torstol leaf. Higher tiers require rarer herbs (Farming output) and rarer secondary ingredients (drops from various sources).

The XP comes from the brewing action itself. Cleaning grimy herbs is its own AFK XP loop — slow per-herb but fast per-tick, easy to leave for hours. Brewing higher-tier potions is the active-play XP champion: 5x potions per inventory cycle, big per-potion XP, and you keep the potions for combat use.

A maxed Apothecary character supplies their own combat consumables for life. Combat potions stack with prayer effects from Vigil for genuine boss-window damage. Restore potions extend AFK sessions by replenishing prayer points and stat drains. The skill is the supply chain that makes high-end combat actually work.

Tips for training Apothecary

1. Clean herbs in batches before any brewing session — herb cleaning is its own AFK loop and the bottleneck for brewing.
2. Super Combat potions at Apothecary 90 stack with Vigil prayers for the strongest boss-window damage in the game.
3. Most secondary ingredients (Eye of Newt, Limpwurt root) come from specific drop tables. Stockpile them.
4. Restore potions extend overnight AFK by replenishing prayer points — combine with Vigil for indefinite buff windows.
5. A few high-end recipes require Inscription components. Train both skills toward the late-game synergy.

What's the most useful potion to brew?

Super Combat (level 90) is the king. Below that level, individual Super Attack, Super Strength, and Super Defense are reasonable substitutes for boss windows.

Where do I get secondary ingredients?

Mostly drops from specific monsters (Eye of Newt from Newts, Limpwurt root from Goblins). The in-game market has steady supply too.
