Quarry

Quarry is Tideward's slayer-style task system, renamed from "Slayer" to dodge Jagex's coinage during the May 2026 rebrand. The mechanic: visit a Quarry master, take an assignment ("kill 145 dust devils"), hunt those targets, and earn Quarry XP plus the master's Quarry-specific drops. Many of the best monsters in Tideward can only be killed during an active Quarry assignment — the skill gates rare loot the rest of the game can't access.

How Quarry works

Each Quarry master has a tier of assignments based on your combat level. Higher-tier masters give bigger numbers, rarer targets, and more XP per kill — but require Quarry XP itself to unlock. The Quarry XP per kill is in addition to the normal combat XP, so an active assignment is always faster XP than freeform combat.

You can skip an assignment for a small Quarry-point cost or block specific monsters you don't want assigned. Quarry points come from completing assignments and can be spent on permanent unlocks — extended assignments, higher-tier ammunition, the ability to assign yourself a specific target, the cosmetic helmet.

Quarry is the AFK skill of choice for max-combat players because the underlying combat XP keeps scaling. A maxed melee character with no assignment is bored; a maxed melee character on a wyvern Quarry assignment is still progressing toward unique drops you can't farm any other way.

Tips for training Quarry

1. Block the assignments you hate first — there are usually 3-5 species not worth the time at any given level. Use early Quarry points on blocks.
2. High-Quarry-level masters give bigger task counts, which means longer AFK windows on a single assignment.
3. Some Quarry-only monsters drop items the rest of the game can't access. Check the master's drop table before blocking.
4. Extended-assignment unlocks pay for themselves quickly — more kills per assignment = more chances at rare drops.
5. AFK Quarry pairs perfectly with Quarry helmet — the bonus XP stacks with your active stance bonus.

Can I do Quarry assignments offline?

Yes. Offline progression simulates assignment kills at the rate active play would, including XP gains and drops. Set the assignment and close the app.

What if I die mid-assignment?

Your assignment continues — you don't lose progress on the kill count for dying. You may lose unprotected items at the gravestone, but the Quarry assignment itself persists.
