Chartwork
Read the water ahead. Turn fragments into passages, and passages into places nobody else can reach.
Chartwork is the knowledge trade. You collect fragments and plot them into charts, and a finished chart does not give you an item, it gives you access. Eight regions of water can each be charted, and the difference between a rough sketch and a true chart is the difference between guessing at a coastline and knowing what is under it.
How Chartwork works
Every region moves through four tiers as you work it: uncharted, rough, sounded, and finally a true chart. Each tier is plotted from fragments the sea and the shore give up, so Chartwork leans on Beachcombing and Fishing for its raw material rather than having a gathering loop of its own.
What charting pays is new geography. A charted region reveals nodes that simply are not on the map otherwise, including a fishing zone, the Charted Shoal, with a fish that exists nowhere else, and a charted vein carrying sea silver. The regions run from the Hedgerow Coast out through the Gullscream Heads, Wreckmark Shoals, Tidewrack Deeps, Bonefield Reach, Stormglass Run and the Drowned Marches, and end at the Leviathan Trench.
Chartwork sits in the wayfaring cluster with Wayfaring, Stargazing and Binding, the trades that change what you can do rather than what you carry. It has no per-action mastery, by design, because it is progression rather than a repeatable action.
Inputs
- Chart fragments from Beachcombing, Fishing and the deeper shores
- A Chartwork level at or above the region you are plotting
Outputs
- Chartwork XP
- Chart tiers per region, from rough through sounded to a true chart
- Access to charted nodes: the Charted Shoal and its oyster, charted sea silver
- Passages into water that is otherwise closed
Tips for training Chartwork
- Chart the regions you actually fish and comb first. A true chart of water you never visit is a beautiful piece of paper.
- Charting is the only way to reach some nodes. If a fish or ore is not showing up anywhere, the answer is usually a chart you have not finished.
- Chartwork has no per-action mastery. That is intended, not a missing feature, so do not go hunting for a mastery bar that was never there.
- The Leviathan Trench is the last region for a reason. Work outward, do not jump.

Frequently asked about Chartwork
What does a finished chart actually give me?
Access. Charted regions reveal nodes that are not otherwise on the map, including a fishing zone and an ore vein that exist only once the water is charted.
Why does Chartwork have no mastery bar?
Because it is a progression trade rather than a repeat-an-action grind. The chart tiers are the progression, so a per-action mastery pool would be measuring the same thing twice.
Is Chartwork in the free game?
No. Chartwork is part of the one-time $9.99 unlock, with Scrimshaw and Shipwrighting. Beachcombing is free.
